Following is a preview of the Rogers boys basketball team, which opens Tuesday at home against Anoka.

Coaches — Joe Belka (head), Cory Puppe, Jordan Stock, Mike Zeman, Josh Rogahn

Captains — Gunnar Bloom, Reid Sagehorn

Returning starters — Cole Murray (jr P),  Bloom (jr PG)

Other letter winners back — Sawyer Thompson (sr G), Sagehorn (sr PG)

Also in the mix — Isaac Aanerud (sr G), Nate Hajder (sr G), Joey Simpson (sr P), Lance Lendl (jr P), Andy Norchardt (jr G), Steffan Musoke (so G)

Coach says — “We have a number of players who can give us playing time. Competition will be fierce and it will only make us better and deeper. This team truly plays as a team, and for one another. I like our chemistry. We are fairly athletic and should be able to get up and down the floor. We have only two players who have started a veracity game … we are inexperienced but we are hungry.”

Outlook — Bloom, all-conference as a sophomore, and the 6-foot-6 Murray give the Royals two solid players to build around. Belka feels that if the Royals are injury-free they should be able to compete with anyone on the schedule.
