National Signing Day brought four STMA athletes to a conference room to sign letters of intent. Wrestler Tommy Thorn joined his brothers at the University of Minnesota.
“It was kind of an easy choice to choose,” Thorn said. He said it was fun signing his letter with his family and coach watching.
Hockey player Emily Achterkirch will play in the Ivy League for Princeton.
“The education there is unbelievable, and the hockey program is amazing, and the coaches there are just, world class. It’s a great school,” she said. She waited her whole life for this moment.
Emily’s fellow hockey player Alex LaMere signed her letter for Ohio State of the Big Ten. She will join the Buckeyes next year.
“When they offered me a spot on their team, I was just ecstatic about it, and I just kind of loved everything about that school,” she said. LaMere added that she is excited to play her sport in college next year.
Swimmer Kasey Roberts will attend Iowa State, a Big 12 school.
“I really enjoy the team, I just felt like the campus is gorgeous, and I think the coaches have a lot of potential.” She enjoyed the signing day event with her family seeing her sign her letter.
The students enjoyed a few minutes with their families after the event concluded.
