Just like the holiday shopping season is starting earlier each year, the Rockford and Delano boys basketball teams are ready to roll a head of normal schedule.
Along with a late Thanksgiving, the boys and girls basketball state tournaments have been exchanged to where the boys go first this season, March 12-15 and the girls end March Madness at state March 18-22.
The result was a start of boys practice Nov. 11 and first games planned for this week, a week prior to the state football title games in the Metrodome Nov. 29 and 30.
However, because Delano ended the football season in the state semifinals last Thursday, the opener for the basketball season was moved from Nov. 23 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 at New Ulm. The first home game is 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 against Watertown-Mayer.
Rockford will open at home against Watertown-Mayer, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22. The Rockets head to play at Dassel-Cokato, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Also starting the season this week is the Rockford-Delano boys hockey team, hosting Blake at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 in Delano. The next day the team takes on Providence Academy at Plymouth Ice Center, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. State power Breck comes to Delano Arena at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Rockford’s wrestlers hit the mat Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the annual Melrose Invitational.
Girls basketball tips off latter than usual due to the switch with the boys. Delano starts at home against Mayer Lutheran, 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. Rockford opens at home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 against Annandale.
