To celebrate the “Green Apple Day of Service,” a day sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Center for Green Schools, Delano Elementary School partnered with Landscape Structures and the Minnesota Green Schools Coalition to help better educate students about the school’s current composting program.

Late in September, volunteers from Landscape Structures, Target and DES helped students compost their lunch waste. In addition, students signed a compost poster that hangs in the lunchroom to remind them about the steps of composting. At the end of it all, students received green apples and other goodies.

Practice makes perfect. Some of Delano’s youngest “green” enthusiasts get a chance to practice what they’ve learned about sorting lunchroom waste
