McClay honored for training 3,000 youth in firearms safety

GaryMcClayHonoredGary McClay, long-time member of the Delano Sportsman’s Club, is presented a plaque by Department of Natural Resources officer Brian Grewe for more than 40 years service as a firearm safety instructor. Starting with his separation from the Armed Forces in 1970, McClay has trained “just 75 short of 3,000” youth. He has history going back to 1966 for the program, which has had 49 different instructors over the years and now has nine. The largest class he has trained was 111 in 1981 and smallest was 28 in 1970.
