‘The Current’ runs through Champlin Mann Cinema

“The Current,” a new family-friendly and Christian faith-based feature film from independent production company ii FiLMS, L.L.C. of Oak Grove, MN, will open in select theaters across the country in November and December – including the Champlin Mann Cinema 14 in Champlin the weekend of Nov. 15-17. The Current has been given the Dove Foundation’s seal as a “Family-Approved” and “Faith-Friendly” film as well as its highest rating of five Doves.

The Current is the story of 13-year-old Jake Larson, who is living in Chicago and loving everything about his life there when his parents decide that city violence is hitting too close to home. Wanting to raise their children in a better environment, Jake’s parents make the life-changing decision to move the family from Chicago to a campground in rural Minnesota. At the campground, a rebellious young Jake meets Peter, the boy from the farm across the river. The two form a fast friendship

that God uses to transform Jake’s life in ways that Jake never could have imagined.

Calling The Current an “inspirational” and “remarkable” film, The Dove Foundation’s review states, “For anyone who has struggled in life, this movie offers hope.” The script for The Current, by Oak Grove resident Scott A. Peterson who also produced the film, was a finalist for the Kairos Prize competition for spiritually-uplifting screenplays in 2011; the movie is part of a growing movement by Christian filmmakers to create family-friendly, faith-based entertainment as a means of impacting American culture. Peterson says the movie is largely a response to the script’s recognition in the competition combined with a challenge from his pastor, Steve Perkins, to a group of church members from Northgate church in Ramsy, MN to do “something impossible” for God. Peterson and an all-volunteer cast and crew filmed The Current during the summer of 2012 in various locations around the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, Shakopee and Chicago. All in all, more than 300 people are involved in the project, including 5 bands whose music is a part of the film. ii Films is partnering with individuals, churches, and other groups to host one-night showings in theaters around the country. It plans to release The Current on DVD and Blu-ray in February 2014. You can see the movie trailer at www.iifilms.com and
