The Central Minnesota Arts Board has awarded a $1,800 Arts Legacy Grant to the Delano Area Council for Arts and Culture for “An Old-Fashioned Christmas,” an annual event that will return to Delano on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Old-Fashioned Christmas is a family-friendly, intergenerational, free event that features an art walk, music, drama, dance and literary events in multiple locations, indoors and outdoors, throughout the downtown Delano business district.
The Arts Board awarded Arts Legacy Grants to the Delano group and 15 other regional arts projects at its October meeting. The 16 grants amounted to a total of $91,333. Three criteria were used in evaluating applications — artistic quality and merit, ability of the organization to carry out the proposal and the needs of the community.
Organizations may apply for up to $6,000 with a 30 percent match requirement for any one project or not more than $6,000 in any one grant round. They also have the option to apply for up to $8,000 with a 50 percent match requirement one time in any of the three grant rounds. These grants receive funding via an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the state’s general fund and its arts and cultural heritage fund created by Minnesota voters.
The Arts Board awarded Arts Legacy Grants to help community groups pay for performances of plays such as “Wizard of Oz” in St. Joseph, exhibits of student and adult artists in Elk River, Christmas chorale events in St. Cloud, the St. Cloud Film Festival in November and more.
The board is one of 11 regional arts councils in Minnesota, with the mission to invest in the arts throughout Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright counties.
