Ten area 4-H’ers participated in the Minnesota 4-H State Shooting Sports and Wildlife Invitational held in Alexandria in September. They are Max Brown, Rogers; Thea Clark, Delano; Brock and Dustin Desens, Rockford; Anna Mundahl, Loretto; and Emily Jan, Benjamin and Tanner Kremer and Carl and Donnie Leuer, all of St. Michael.

At the invitational, 746 youth from 51 counties participated in 11 events, including BB gun, Standard Air Rifle, Three Position Air Rifle, Air Pistol, .22 Rifle, Muzzleloading, Trap, Silhouette, Wildlife Calling, Skillathon and Conservation/Wildlife Displays throughout the weekend. Youth showcased skills that they had learned throughout the past year, as they spent 15 or more hours working with a trained instructor in their discipline of interest.

The Minnesota 4-H Shooting Sports and Wildlife Program began in the 1980s and has grown to 4,000 4-H members and 500 adult leaders. Members may become involved in the 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Program in the Air Rifle and Air Pistol, Archery, .22 Rifle, Muzzleloading, Shotgun and Wildlife disciplines. Adults can become certified discipline instructors by attending a weekend workshop and instructing youth in their county.
