STMA girls conference runnerups as a team
Led by the familiar duo of Rachel King and Lizzy Heil who finished 1-2 at the Mississippi-8 Conference Championship cross country meet, the STMA Girls cross country team finished runnerup to Monticello at the Conference Meet in St. Francis on Wednesday October 16th. Team totals were as follows:

STMA’s Rachel King won her second individual Conference title in as many years as she held off her freshman teammate Lizzy Heil, the individual runnerup. King and Heil both had personal best times of 14:21 and 14:24, respectively in leading the Knights. Another STMA 9th grader, Belle Nyhus, earned “All-Conference” status as well, by placing 20th in a time of 16 minutes flat. Sophomore McKenna Rogers earned “Honorable Mention All-Conference” with a 29th place finish and a time of 16:21. Other varsity girls for STMA included: Abbie Herbst (38th-16:43), Jaymie Hansen (47th-17:02), Erin Schindler (51st-17:09), Courtney Schoen (66th-17:50), and Karson Sorby (67th-17:51).
STMA assistant Heather Strait said, “We had a great overall effort from the girls. Placing 2nd was about as high of a team finish as we could have expected and we had numerous personal best times, so we were very pleased. This was the 4th race this season where Rachel and Lizzy went 1-2, in that order, as they continue to have success and push each other”.
The Knight JV girls also finished runnerup to Monticello and were led by Megan Kucera who placed 6th in a time of 17:44. Other “top 7” runners for the Knights in the JV Girls 4K included: Emily Ruhland (12th-18:30), Cheyenne Vavrina (13th-18:31), Gabby Vetsch (14th-18:33), Sidney Schreiner (20th-18:49), Maddie Jesser (28th-19:47), and Jada Brown (35th-20:17).
