Hamel Lions Flea Market

SUNDAYS THROUGH OCT. 27 — The Hamel Lions Flea Market will be open on Sundays through Oct. 27 in the parking lot of the Medina Entertainment Center, 500 Hwy. 55, Medina. Bargain hunters can visit the market from 6 a.m. to noon. The Flea Market will be closed on May 12 and 19 and Aug. 11. Vendors will offer antiques, collectables, bargains, crafts, produce, plants, fall farmers market, and one of a kinds. Admission and parking are free. Vendor space costs $20 per spot. Delano Farmers Market

WEDNESDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER — The Delano Farmers Market is open Wednesdays through October from 2 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Flippin’ Bills’, located on the corner of Highway 12 and County Line Road in Delano. Shoppers will find freshly baked bread, local honey, maple syrup, pickles, farm fresh eggs, seasonal fruits and more when in season. A non-profit booth is available. Delano Library Art Show

OCT. 1 – 26 — Area amateur and professional artists are exhibiting their work at the annual Delano Public Library art exhibit through Oct. 26. The library and the Friends of the Delano Library are exhibit sponsors. The art show is on view during library hours at 160 Railroad Ave. E., Delano.

Book and Bake Sale

OCT. 7 to 12 — The Rockford Public Library is hosting a Book and Bake Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library on Monday, Oct. 7 through Saturday, Oct. 12. Proceeds will be used to support library activities. Stop by the library to pick up great book bargains and home baked goods. Loretto FD Open House

OCT. 12 — The Loretto Fire Department will celebrate Fire Prevention Week with an open house from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Fire Station, 259 N. Medina St. (County Road 19) in Loretto. Visitors can dine on roast (free will offering). Other activities will be games, inflatables, silent auction, face painting, fire truck rides, demonstrations, free drawings, fire station tours and more.

Card Marathon Deadline

OCT. 12 — The deadline for reserving a spot in the seven-month long Card Marathon, sponsored by the General Federated Women’s Club of Delano, is Saturday, Oct. 12. The 2013-2014 series kicks off at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 21. The event is held on the third Monday of the month at the Delano Middle School media center and continues through April 21.  Card games are “500” and cribbage.  Cost for the entire season is $15.  Cash prizes are awarded each month and to champions in each game at the end of the season. Tea with Tea Rex 

OCT. 12 — Author and storyteller Carla Johnson will be at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. to present Tea with Tea Rex from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12. Children, ages 3 to 7, with their caregivers, are invited to hear the story of an overactive dinosaur and a very proper girl and boy who attempt to come together for tea. Johnson is the author of “Teatime Tillie.” She will share teatime poems, etiquette tips, a fun craft and yummy food. Attendance limit is 40. Registration in advance is required. Snuggle Up and Read Storytime

OCT. 14 — Parents are invited to register their toddlers, 18 months to three years, for a series of Snuggle Up and Read Toddler Storytimes. They will take place 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. on Mondays, Oct. 7 through Nov. 4. Toddler times will include singing, clapping and fun stories, as well as a new literacy tip each week. Crow River Food Co-op

OCT. 14 — The Crow River Food Co-op (community owned grocery store) will conduct its monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 14, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the China Buffet (located in the Rockford Mall on the north side of Highway 55). The public is invited to attend and find out more about this community-wide effort to open a full-service grocer in the area. OCT. 15 — The city of Rockford will be flushing hydrants Tuesday, Oct. 15, starting at 2 a.m. – until completion. Residents may experience low water pressure and discoloration to water. it is recommended that you do not wash clothing during this time period.

Fall Morning Stories

OCT. 15 — The Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E., is offering a series of Fall Morning Stories programs for children ages 3 to 5. Pizza Taste Off 

OCT. 15 — The Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E., will host its sixth annual Pizza Taste-off and Teen Read Week Celebration from 5 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15. Teens and preteens 10 to 14 years old are invited to taste local pizzas and pick the best pizza in town. They also are encouraged to bring a favorite book recommendation for sharing with the group. OCT. 18 — The Hamel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post invites anyone, member or not, to dine at a Burgers & More night from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Post, 19020 Hamel Road, Plymouth. Future Burgers & More nights will be Nov. 1, Nov. 15 and Dec. 6. Proceeds will go to support veterans’ programs. Haunted Acres

OCT. 18, 19, 25, 26, 31 — Haunted Acres is returning to Corcoran Lions Park, 7205 County Road 101, Corcoran for the Halloween season. Hours will be 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 18, 19, 25, 26 and 31. Tickets will cost $10 or $9 with a non-perishable food donation for area food shelves. Caution: This attraction is for mature audiences only. Mystery Bingo

OCT. 19 — Catholic United Financial is sponsoring a matching grant “mystery” bingo, set for 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19 at  Sts. Peter and Parish Center, 145 Railway St., Loretto. Proceeds will go towards religious education programs at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish of Loretto. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children 11 and under. This price includes 20 games of bingo, door prizes, and meal (hot dog, chips, and beverage). All prizes are valued between $20 and $40.

Bivoli Folkdancing

OCT. 22 — Come and learn international dances that are fun and easy to learn. Bivoli Folkdancing will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month on the second floor of the Heritage Center, Bridge Avenue and Second Street in Delano. No experience or partner is necessary. Drop-in when ever you can and stay as long as you want. Bring a reusable water bottle and wear comfortable walking shoes. Cost is one dollar per session.
