Soccer: Section pairings set for Elks and Royals

Elk River will host a Section 8AA soccer doubleheader Thursday with the No. 3 seeded Elk girls facing Bemidji at 5 p.m. followed by the No. 2 seeded Elk River-Zimmerman boys vs. St. Michael-Albertville at 7 p.m.

Rogers plays in the same section, with the No. 5 seeded Royal boys at Moorhead at 3 p.m. while the No. 2 seeded Royal girls host Buffalo at 7 p.m.

Top seeds are the Anoka boys, who beat the Elks 1-0 in overtime on Sept. 4, and St. Michael-Albertville girls, who clinched the distinction by beating Rogers 1-0 on Oct. 1.

Semifinals will be played Saturday and finals Tuesday, all at the higher seeded team.

The Elk boys finished the regular season 10-3-3 with a tie and two losses in their last three games: 0-0 vs. Champlin Park, 3-1 vs. Maple Grove and 2-0 vs. Eden Prairie. They faced STMA in the regular season, winning 1-0.

No. 8 Buffalo (4-10-2) at No. 1 Anoka (11-3-2)

No. 5 Rogers (8-8) at No. 4 Moorhead (10-3-3)

No. 7 St. Michael-Albertville (3-9-4) at No. 2 Elk River-Zimmerman (10-3-3)

No. 6 Brainerd (6-10) at No. 3 St. Cloud Tech (10-3-3)

Semifinals Saturday, 1 or 7 p.m., at high seed

Finals Tuesday at high seed
