The unbeaten Rogers Royals took on a 4-1 Monticello team on their field Friday night and weren’t slowed down a bit, racking up their most robust total of the season in a 66-27 win.

Nate Weber dashed for four touchdowns while Gunnar Bloom, Jake Owens, Justin Bohnsack, Isaiah Fofanah rushed for one each and Cole Murray snagged a TD pass from Connor Henderson. Fofanah closed the scoring with a 70-yard burst. Isaac Aanerud booted a field goal and nine conversions.

The Royals led 14-0 before Monticello ran a play. Bloom’s seven-yard TD run was followed by a low line drive kickoff that bounced off a Magic player and back to Rogers, after which Murray scored on a pass.

Rogers led 28-0 early in the second quarter.

“I was real pleased that the kids were so ready to play,” said coach Marc Franz. “Our first four defensive series were three 3-and-outs and a takeaway.”

Jake Berthiaume passed for three touchdowns for Monticello, two of them to Andrew Manning and one to Brenden Meyere.

The Royals (6-0), ranked sixth in Class 5A, appear headed for a conference championship duel with St. Michael-Albertville (6-0) in the final week of the regular season, the Wednesday game Oct. 16. Next Friday, the Royals will host Big Lake (1-5) next Friday and the Knights will host Cambridge-Isanti (4-2). STMA beat Monticello 14-7 on Sept. 13.
