Elaine Malone

95, of Wabasha, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at St. Elizabeths Nursing Home in Wabasha.
Elaine (White) Malone was born May 28, 1918, to John and Ruth (Gardner) White in Hammond, Wis.,and Graduated from the Hammond High School in 1936. After working in sales in various department stores in St. Paul, she returned to Hammond and married her long time friend and classmate, Edward Malone. They reared eight children. After running Movie Theaters, in Colfax, Wis., and Pipestone,
They purchased the theater in Wabasha. After several years, they sold the theater and started the first flower shop and garden center in Wabasha,known as the Blossom Shop and Cabbage Center, which they operated with the family for 40 years.
Elaine was active in many civic affairs as well as volunteering for many organizations. She was a charter member of the State of Minnesota Mrs. Jaycees, the first president of the Wabasha Mrs. Jaycees, and at the time the first City Hostess for the City of Wabasha. She was also a member of the Wabasha County Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC), the Wabasha American Legion Auxiliary, the womens bowling league, St. Elizabeths Hospital Auxiliary, and the St. Elizabeth Hospital Development Foundation Board. She received the Wabasha Mother of The Year Award in 1964, and she was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church and its Womens Guild. She was also a volunteer to a very special friend, Mary Griffith.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward William Malone, and Son, Patrick. She is survived by her seven children, Sharon, Mary, Ed, Bill, Jim, Sue, and Tracy; her loving and caring daughter-in-laws, Annie, Karen, Bella, and Beloved Shelley, her Beloved son-in-laws John Kirby, and Dr Bruce Shrallow; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her Niece, Mary Agnew and her Nephew, George Agnew, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, with Sister Esther Leis, Kathy Edwarrds, and Sue Hampe officiating. Her body will be cremated following the service.
Honorary Bearers are Jason Kirby, David Grigg, Mike Malone,
Bill Malone Jr., Tom Malone, Daniel Malone, Sean Scoville, and George Agnew Jr.
Internment will be in Riverview Cemetery at a later time.
Family and friends may call at Abbott Funeral Home, Mon. Sept. 30th, from 5 PM. To 8 PM., and one hour before the service on Tuesday.
Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeths Community Foundation, 1200 Grant Blvd. W., Wabasha MN 55981 and the Wabasha Development Achievement Center, 611 Broadway Ave., Wabasha, MN., 55981.
