The Knights tennis team came into homecoming week having lost its last three matches. Two matchups against Mississippi 8 opponents awaited the girls.
Against the St. Francis Saints, the Knights won 7-0. #1 singles player Kiana Eystad won her matchup 6-0, 6-0. Missy Gust won hers 6-1, 6-0. Maddy Schopf followed suit 6-1, 6-3 and Cory Eull won 6-2, 6-3.
Coach Jim Riles thought the singles players hustled and played consistent tennis.
The doubles teams also did well. Jessica and Jolene Duda won 6-3, 6-0. Coach Riles paired them together as a change of pace. Regular team Brittany Haas and Emily Tschida won 6-3, 6-1. Annie Caron and Anna Moritz won 6-4, 6-4. In the extra matchup, Brittney Gruby and Mackenzie Laterell lost 4-6, 6-3, with a 7-10 tiebreaker in the third set.
Coach Riles said that the doubles players moved well together.
On Thursday, the Knights took on Big Lake and also won 7-0. For this matchup, coach Riles went back to his usual lineup. Jessica Duda came back to win her match 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Jolene Duda won hers 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Eull won hers 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 with a tiebreaker in the third set. Riles was impressed by his girls’ competitive spirit.
In doubles, Haas and Tschida won 6-1, 6-2. Schopf and Caron won 7-6×1, 6-0. Moritz and Gruby won 6-3, 6-3 and Laterell and Alissa Anderson won 7-6×6, 6-2.
Riles felt his doubles teams did a great job.
The Knights improved to 12-5 with a conference record of 4-4. The Knights finished the regular season on Monday against Buffalo. STMA began section play on Wednesday.
