It’s a ‘Grand Slam’ for St. John’s, $10 grand to be exact

The Minnesota Twins Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to St. John’s Lutheran Church and School, on the Corcoran and Maple Grove border, for renovations to its baseball field.

The Twins Community Fund’s Twins Fields for Kids program will allow the opportunity for much needed improvements to St. John’s ballpark. Grant applications are accepted three times a year and St. John’s was awarded their grant in May. Planned renovations include proper drainage, field grading, scraping and replacing limestone in the ball field, fencing and backstop repair.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to upgrade our facility and we thank the Minnesota Twins and their grant program for offering this opportunity,” said board member Deb Koehler.

The money comes as a matching grant, and was matched from the School’s PTL Spring Walk-A-Thon fundraiser.

“Thanks to very generous people for monetary assistance, time, and labor we quickly fulfilled our matching obligation. We are so grateful to the Minnesota Twins and their willingness to get involved and support local communities and schools in this way,” said Koehler.

In addition to the work that will be funded by the program, almost 20 church volunteers have already worked to remove the outfield fence and backstop so repairs can take place.
