Medina crash kills 23-year-old woman

A 23-year-old woman died Sunday, Sept. 1, when her car left the road and broadsided a tree on Hamel Road in Medina.

Medina Police were called at 11:15 a.m. to the accident scene, where they found Anna Fedor, of Arden Hills, dead at the wheel of her car. According to police, she was driving west on Hamel Road and approaching Arrowhead Drive when the accident happened. As she came upon a slight curve, her car started to slide off the road.

Police Chief Ed Belland said the accident scene was gruesome and a difficult situation for first responders to deal with emotionally. The car almost broke in two from the impact with the tree. The car’s roof was peeled back. Air bags were not deployed because the car hit the tree sideways. Fedor was wearing her seat belt.

Belland said on Friday, Sept. 6, that both the Minnesota State Patrol and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner were continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. He and other police were wondering why Fedor’s car left the road at a gentle curve on a clear night. Police found no skid marks, but they did find evidence of the car’s slide off the road.
