Delano Library art show is coming

The Delano Public Library invites area artists to display their work at its 28th annual art show running from Oct. 1 through Oct. 26. Deadline for bringing work to the library at 160 Railroad Ave. E. is Friday, Sept. 27.

The Delano Friends of the Library are looking for volunteers to help hang art work. To volunteer or ask questions about exhibiting work, call Mary Ann Bernat at 763-972-6274, or the library at 763-972-3467. The Delano Public Library and Friends of the Library are sponsoring the exhibit.

An open house for the exhibit will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1. Artists will be on hand to meet visitors. The Friends of the Delano Library will serve refreshments. An art book will also be given away in a drawing for all those present at the open house.

Artist Teri Jensen, of Watertown, will speak about her art and show samples from 6:30-7 p.m. She has worked in many types of media, and in many subject areas. “Come and see her fine pencil drawings,” Bernat invited. “She also has mentored aspiring artists, so she will be sure to answer any of your questions following her talk.

Rollie Starry also will be present to do caricatures of all who attend. Starry drew cartoons for the Delano Herald newspaper for a number of years and is also an accomplished acrylic painter.

The library currently is accepting art for the show. All artists in the community, both young and old, professional and amateur, are urged to bring in two of their finest works to display during the show. This exhibit does not include photos, quilts, or any fiber arts because the library has other exhibits planned for those types of art.

The exhibit will include oil, watercolor, acrylic, pencil, pottery, metal and wood sculpture. Bring art work to the library no later than Friday, Sept. 28, during opening hours and fill out a display form. Art work must be ready to hang, or to be placed in small low bookstands. Otherwise it will not be displayed. If pieces are very fragile, notify the library staff when you drop them off. All artwork should be picked up no later than Monday, Nov. 4.

Delano Public Library hours are Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesdays, 1 to 8 p.m.; Thursdays, 1 to 8 p.m.; Fridays, 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
