The Dayton City Council met Tuesday, Aug. 26, to discuss the dedication of Sue McLean Park.

Park Commission Chairperson Doug Baines proposed the official dedication of the park to occur during Dayton Heritage Day at noon Sept. 21. He also would like to dedicate the gardens of the park to Paul Ploog. Ploog kept up the park’s gardens and his family has continued to do so after his passing. Baines requested the council look at the budget to provide landscaping services, picnic tables, grills and a gazebo in the park area. He also requested the council’s approval of two signs on the corner of Baxter and Levi Street and Dayton Road and Levi Street.

Baines said that, eventually, he hopes the city can dedicate a highway to the veterans of Dayton.

“We’ve been looking for a park, but haven’t had any luck,” he added.

The council also discussed the need for a permanent Senior Center Coordinator. This is a part time position for direct hire. The Dayton Senior Center is in need of volunteers on Fridays.
