Many participate in District 279 Foundation’s 5K Fun Run

The District 279 Foundation 5K Fun Run brought out more than 500 participants and more than 50 volunteers for the event held at Elm Creek Park Reserve on Aug. 17. Channel 12’s Dave Kiser emceed while Goldy Gopher and TC Bear joined Scoopy from Culvers, Subman from Subway, Wilbur from Famous Daves BBQ and several Osseo Area Schools mascots in greeting and interacting with participants.

Mitchell Feinberg, 11, Taran Palli, 8, and Michael Calamino, 9, sport a post-run glow after their 5K finishes. Mitchell and Taran both ranked in the top 15 in their division, both posting times under 29 minutes. Meanwhile, Michael placed first in his division and sixth overall with a remarkable 23:32 time.

Additionally, every child that finished the run earned a free book. District 279 Foundation raised more than $9,000 from the event, which will be used to support Osseo Area Schools media centers.
