Man’s best friend, a good listener for early readers

The Rockford Public Library is beginning a fall season of “Read To a Dog” programming for children on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Read to a Dog will also be offered on Sept. 28 and Oct. 26. Rockford’s dog friend is Kirk. He is a five-year-old Farm Collie who has achieved his American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen certificate and loves listening to children read. Even children who are not confident readers will enjoy reading to Kirk. Children may bring a favorite book or pick one out at the library.
