Two Independence City Councilors, Linda Betts and Brad Spencer, are seeking repeat four-year terms as city council members in Independence. The city election will be Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The deadline for filing candidacy papers was Tuesday, Aug. 13. No one filed papers to oppose Betts and Spencer for the two open seats on the Independence City Council. Voters will be able to write in the names of other candidates on the ballot on Nov. 5, so the two incumbent city councilors still might face opposition in the election.
Betts has served for three terms (12 years) on the City Council. Spencer is seeking his second term. Other current city councilors are Norm Wenck and Brad Fisher. Marvin Johnson is mayor.
