Senior Movie Club Matinee

AUG. 6 — Adults and seniors are invited to a Senior Movie Club Matinee at the St. Michael Public Library on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Enjoy a free movie at the library and a discussion following. The movie features a group of British retirees who travel to India to live in a retirement home that doesn’t quite match their expectations. Magical Mia

AUG. 7 — Adults, teens and children are invited to the St. Michael Public Library for a mystifying performance by Magical Mia on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mia brings music, stories, poetry and unusual magic tricks with an Asian theme. She is a student of Chinese and Japanese dance, and performs with a graceful style to create a one-of-a-kind presentation. The attendance limit is 50 and registration is required. AUG. 8 — Corcoran City Council will meet will next meet Thursday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. at city hall at 8200 County Rd. 116.

Word of Peace Corn Feed

AUG. 8 — The third annual Word of Peace Lutheran Church Community Corn Feed is Thursday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers. Events take place from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring live music, games for kids and a free will offering. The band playing is called Four plus One; hamburgers and hot dogs will be served in addition to all the corn you can eat; free will suggested offering is $10/individual and $25/family; and games including a bouncy house for kids. There will be a raffle for four prizes: a 50-inch TV, auto detailing package, $250 cash prize and $100 cash prize.

‘Music Moves Us’ Kindermusic

AUG. 12 — Preschoolers 1 to 5 years of age are invited to Music Moves Us, a Kindermusic program at the St. Michael Public Library on Monday, Aug. 12. Two sessions are offered: 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. and 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. Join Ms. Sandy for a program of creative movement, vocal play and instrument play that children will enjoy with their parents or caregivers. The attendance limit is 15 per session. Registration is required. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Burschville Summerfest

AUG. 18 — Summerfest, held at the Burschville School located in Corcoran on County Rd. 10 Sunday, Aug. 18, from noon to 4:30 p.m. There will be old-fashioned music, “Those Pork Chops” food wagon, face painting by Naomi, school tours, kids games, door prizes and raffles. Country Daze

AUG. 16-17 — The 10th annual Corcoran Country Daze is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16 and 17, featuring free family fun, free live music, softball, classic car show, craft show, food and beer. Tim Mahoney Band plays Friday, Aug. 16, at 8:30 p.m. with opening act Lakeside Houdinis at 7:30 p.m. Hell Country Truckers plays Saturday, Aug. 17. Concerts are free with non-perishable food donation of cash donation for the food shelf. Concerts are from 8 p.m. to midnight. The Hope Community Church first annual 5K run is Saturday at 8:30 a.m., register at Free family day is Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring Euro bungee jumper, face painting/crazy hair, rock climbing wall, pony rides, build a birdhouse, kid’s games, inflatable toddler zone, North Air Car helicopter, police/fire/rescue exhibits, benefit volleyball tournament and NFL punt, pass and kick contest. St. Thomas parish festival

AUG. 18 — The St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church parish festival/turkey dinner is Sunday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 200 County Rd. 10.

Fire Up 5K

SEPT. 28 — The Tim Larson Memorial Fund Fire Up 5K walk and run is Saturday, Sept. 28, behind STMA Middle School West, 11343 50th St., Albertville. Registration is at 8 a.m., race at 9. Register by Sept. 21 for $20 to guarantee a t-shirt. Race day registration is $25, extra shirts will be available while they last. Kids can race this year, students 18 and under pay $10 for the 5K. The course winds through the city of Albertville. Former STMA teacher Tim Larson was killed tragically Oct. 18, 2011. He was an avid runner, having finished 15 marathons. Tim loved the color blaze orange. Participants are encouraged to wear orange in support.
