Night to Unite and National Night Out parties are coming to Delano, Medina, Loretto, Greenfield, Rockford and Independence Tuesday, Aug. 6. Some gatherings are neighborhood block parties and some are city events. In both cases, the idea is for neighbors to get to know each other and fight crime in their neighborhoods.
For neighborhood block parties, now is the time for party hosts to contact local law enforcement agencies to register parties. Party hosts can arrange for visits from police and fire departments and city officials. Also supplies to enhance parties and party ideas might also be available.
Here are some details about Night to Unite/National Unite in local cities.
Delano will host a community-wide National Night Out celebration from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Delano Fire Station, 245 Second St. N. Events will include a neighborhood “meet and greet,” bounce house slide, activities for kids, crime prevention tips and information and more.
Delano residents also are invited to host their own block parties. Hosts can have members of Delano Fire Department visit their parties by calling 763-972-0581. Tips for holding a block party and/or more information about National Night Out can be found at nationaltownwatch.org/nno. For more information or questions, call Delano Fire Station at 763-972-0581, or go to delano.mn.us.
In Medina and Loretto, Night to Unite is taking the form of neighborhood parties. To set up a party, contact Medina Police Community Service Officer Jeff Kordiak at 763-473-9209 or e-mail Jeffrey.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Medina Police said, “Night to Unite is a program established to take a stand against crime in our neighborhoods. How it works is that parties are held in your neighborhood, which gives our residents a chance to get to know their neighbors. Crime is solved and prevented by having neighbors watching out for each other and alert the police of suspicious activity.”
West Hennepin Public Safety (WHPS) is coordinating Night to Unite neighborhood parties in Independence and Maple Plain. To register a party, contact WHPS by calling 763-479-0500 or visiting WHPS at 1918 County Road 90 in Independence.
