Public invited to learn about Lake Independence project

The Lake Independence Citizens Association (LICA) board is inviting the public to attend a public information meeting regarding the proposed clean-out of the Lake Independence outlet. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Independence City Hall, 1920 County Road 90.

Water Resources Consultants Craig Jochum and Becky Wozney from the engineering firm of Hakanson Anderson will offer a short presentation that will be followed by a question and answer session. Independence City Councilor Brad Spencer will serve as moderator.

“Most of us have been very concerned about the extended periods of very high water (on Lake Independence) and the erosion and water quality issues that result,” said LICA President Mike McLaughlin. “This outlet clean-out project is designed to simply return the lake to normal healthy levels. The evening should be very informative. We hope you can attend.”

“We want to know what you think,” he said. “Questions and comments in advance are welcome, especially if you can’t attend.”
