The Maple Grove Pickleball Players recently participated in the Minnesota Senior Games in Owatonna. This was the team’s first time competing at this event.
Kris Orluck, senior coordinator with the Maple Grove Parks and Recreation Board, initiated the program about two years ago. The first pickleball courts were lined at that time. Since then the Maple Grove Pickleball Players have grown to a community of about 75 people. Of those, 35 players participate more than three times a week in games.
The Maple Grove Pickleball team sent a group of nine players to the Minnesota Senior Games. There were five women and four men.
Those players had a successful tournament. The nine players took home 11 medals — eight gold, two silver and one bronze. These winners ranged in age from 50 to 75.
The Maple Grove is already looking forward to next year when Minneapolis will host the Minnesota Senior Games and to the following year when the metro area will host the National Senior Games.
