Maple Grove Days is fun for children

Looking to spend some fun summer experiences with children? Well look no further than Maple Grove Days, which will have a full line up of events to share individually with a child or as a family. Let Maple Grove Days help plan an entire weekend during Maple Grove Days, running from July 11 to 14.

The fun starts early Thursday morning as Schiffelly’s puppets come to the Town Green stage with their silly antics and great story line. Brings the whole family out and join the fun at the Pierre Bottineau Parade. With over 100 entries in the parade, participants will see creative units with lots of music, entertainment and, of course, free candy. Remember to keep children safe by not having them run out into the street for the candy. Participants have been instructed to hand candy to parade watchers. Everyone will surely be able to enjoy the event if safety is a priority.

The summer fun continues Friday, July 12, with more kid friendly events. The Junior Golf Tournament at French Lake Golf Course starts a day of competition. Family time can be shared at “Cool Ray Skate” in the ice arena at the Maple Grove Community Center or bowling at Sundance. There is competition for those darling baby racers in the Diaper Derby. The Derby will be held on the lawn at the Town Green.

Next in the line-up of entertainment and competition is the Children’s Parade. Viewers will be surprised by the amazing and very creative floats as the children dazzle with decorated bikes, trikes, wagons and entertaining costumes. No pre-registration is required. Just bring the kids, parents, family and friends to cheer as participants stroll along the paths around the Town Green. Following the Children’s Parade, pull up lawn chairs to watch the fun upbeat and thoroughly entertaining musical talents of the Splatter Sisters. As the sun sets the movie screen goes up for a great animated movie. Snacks will be available for purchase at the concession stand.

There’s fun from morning till night Saturday, July 13, start with morning with a good workout, running or walking in the Kids Fun Run on the trail around North Arbor Lake, across from the Maple Grove Government Center. Brush up on fishing skills at the fishing pier on Weaver Lake while the members of the Weaver Lake Conservation Association host a Fishing Clinic. Poles and bait are provided. If a family is interested in learning about the exciting hi-tech game of Geocaching, stop by Weaver Lake Elementary Nature Center. Registration is required for this event.

The rest of the day has great children’s entertainment beginning in the morning with a musical performance from the “Alphabits” and the magical creativity of David Olson the balloon artist. In the afternoon check out the amazing high flying tricks performed at the Rich Weiber’s Bicycle Stunt Show. There is a full line of local youth talent performed at the Town Green with World TaeKwondo Academy, karate demonstrations, Dancin On Broadway dancers. Theater productions by Bunce Backyard Productions, and Fam Jam, performances that not only entertain but have a great lesson to.

See the really cool fashion creations at the Duct Tape Contest. Better yet make one. Stop by and enjoy the Big Truck Show and see tires bigger than most kids. Don’t forget to check out the amazing cars on display at the Classic Car Show on the Main Street.

On the way back to the community center check out the Keep a Boat a Float contest or join the fun and build a family boat.

Head inside the community center where there’s lots of great giveaways for children in the Business Expo, and just down the hall there’s story time from a Novel Place and craft projects from Step By Step in the Kid’s Room or fun in the Maple Maze.

Put on a builder’s hat and grab those tools there’s plenty of fun while building a wood project from Home Depot, build a model car, or stuff a special teddy bear from Noah’s Critters. Like to play in sand, hunt for the buried Culver coins in the Coin Hunt, play Bingo, test your skills at Miniature Golf and the Obstacle Course. There are games to play, like football toss, pop ring toss, soccer kick and lots more. An animal lover? Well don’t miss the petting zoo or giddy-up for a pony ride. It’s always fun to bounce around on one of the great inflatable rides, too. Remember to bring socks. Dress up for a fun family photo from Flash Portraits.

Wander over to the Art Fair on Saturday or Sunday and enjoy the hands on experience at the Maple Grove Art Center making Art on a Stick.

Lots of good food awaits everyone all day long and people want to stay into the evening for the spectacular fireworks display. People will do plenty of walking during the day so why not start out at the Maple Grove Transit Station and take advantage of the free shuttle bus with a choice of four drop-off sites.
