The District 279 Gators synchronized swim team capped off the season with another shining performance at the Minnesota State Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on May 23 and 24.

Individually placing at state was captain Marisa Lee (Osseo Senior High senior), who placed third in the long figure competition and took sixth in the extended solo competition. Lee was awarded All-Conference honors this season.

“I am just so proud of Marisa. She led the team with talent and grace and an always positive attitude,” Coach Joanne Neumann said. “She is very deserving of her All-Conference award.”

The dramatic duo of Lee and Erika Badger (Maple Grove Senior High sophomore) took third place in the long duet competition. A seventh place finish in the short team competition went to Shannon Brunner (MGSH junior), Riley DeClark (OSH sophomore), Emily DeCock (MGSH sophomore), Anna Ganser (eighth grade), Anna Neumann (MGJH eighth grade), Julia Stern (MGSH sophomore), Abigail Tollas (MGJH ninth grade) and Natasha Zajicek (MGSH junior).

The team will be led next year by captains Erika Badger, Lindsay Breidenbach, Shannon Brunner and Sarah Dill.

“We’ve all worked really hard this year,” said Dill, “And we are looking forward to more accomplishments at state next year.”
