Summer Vacation Bible School opportunities abound for youngsters

Several options exist this summer for youth to participate in Vacation Bible School (VBS) at area churches. Many have registration deadlines but some may allow for last minute sign-up. Many programs are also looking for volunteers to successfully run their VBS programs. Contact each church or parish for specific details. The following details a list of some of those opportunities:

United Methodist, Osseo

JUNE 24, JULY 15 TO 18 — Area youngsters can now register for Osseo United Methodist Church’s free Vacation Bible School (VBS) scheduled Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18, at the church, 16 Second Ave. S.E.

Registration forms have been sent to everyone who attended last year. Registration forms also are available by calling the church office at 425-2923 or downloading them from the church website at osseoumc.org.

Those youngsters registering by the Monday, June 24, deadline will receive a free t-shirt. Youngsters can still register up to the first day of events.

VBS is two programs running at the same time for your convenience, one for pre-schoolers and the other for school age children.

“God’s Backyard Bible Camp Under the Sun” is this year’s program for pre-schoolers (ages 3 by July 11 through kindergarten by this fall) and will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Preschoolers will experience worship, games, stories, snacks, missions and craft projects. The morning will be filled with fun and excitement as the children learn to serve their family, friends, neighbors, community and Jesus.

Children in grades one through fiv (this fall) will have their program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Theme is “Faith Alive.” The dynamic team from Luther Park Bible Camp of Danbury, Wis. again this year will lead the children.

With the help of senior high school student volunteers, children will be involved in Bible studies, arts and crafts, singing, recreation, worship and much more. The four days will focus on the Bible, worship, prayer, hospitality and service.

Each day students will need to bring their lunch and a water bottle clearly marked with their first and last name. An afternoon snack will be provided. Parents are asked to have their children wear sunscreen every day.

The final celebration will be for all children participating in both programs Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at the church followed by a treat and by different activities including stations for food, yard games, crafts and mission projects to encourage spending time together as a family.

Each crew is lead around to each activity by a member of our M Squad or by a volunteer. We begin everyday in the School Gym at 9 a.m. with music and an intro.  Throughout the day the kids do a series of activities. There will be games, crafts, a bible story, and a Saint story.  The Bible story and the Saint story will be acted out for the students. Each day focuses on a different Bible story, and the activities are based on that story. There is also snack time in the middle of the day.  We conclude with more music in the Gym at 11:30 a.m. and dismiss at noon.

The theme for this year is “Jesus loves me.” Our goal is to teach the kids how they can have a relationship with Jesus, even at a young age. Registration fee includes a t-shirt for each registered child, bible memory wristbands, crafts, games, and snacks. Church of St. Stephen is located at 525 Jackson Street, Anoka.
