Maple Grove to be proclaimed a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Community at celebration

Last August, Maple Grove began the process to become a nationally recognized Yellow Ribbon Community. A Yellow Ribbon City’s purpose is to unite all areas within a community to create a comprehensive network that connects and coordinates resources for the purpose of proactively supporting Servicemembers, Veterans and military families.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon cities are required to complete a sustainable action plan, which is then submitted to the Minnesota National Guard and Governor Dayton for final approval and issuance of an official proclamation.

Over the last several months, the Maple Grove Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Steering Committee has worked to develop a sustainable action plan that outlines how the Maple Grove community will support its military families. Some of the key components of the action plan entail building a database of volunteers and businesses to help with assistance requests, hosting monthly meetings, organizing an annual welcome home event for Maple Grove service members and their families, awareness training for police officers and other city employees and creating a resource list of community support efforts. More than 50 community members and leaders contributed to the success of the action plan and Maple Grove’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Community proclamation.

The Maple Grove committee invites the public to attend a Proclamation Celebration event for the community and share in the celebration Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at the Maple Grove Town Green.

To celebrate the proclamation, Rocket Club will be performing live at the ceremony. Minneapolis-based Rocket Club seems to have struck the perfect chord. Using an unusual blend of rich three-part harmonies, arena guitar riffs, honest and songwriting, and live shows, this group is steadily bringing their country — North Country — to the world. Country music doesn’t come from Minnesota, they were told.

If anyone is a Servicemember, Veteran or military family member and have any questions, needs, or if anyone is interested in volunteering with the program, contact the group at 612-564-9764, yellowribbonmg@gmail.com or visit us on Facebook (Maple Grove Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network). There is no cost to participate in the program.
