CROSS steps up to food shelf challenge

CROSS Food Shelf is participating in the Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Fourth Annual $150,000 Food Shelf Challenge Grant in which funds raised by food shelves are matched up to $5,000 by Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless to help end hunger in the community. The more funds donated to CROSS in July, the larger the portion from the Open Your Heart grant will be.

Those at CROSS encourage the community to donate in July so that CROSS Food Shelf can continue to strengthen its connection with the community using much-needed funds provided by this grant.

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless has over 25 years of experience as the only grant provider in Minnesota focused solely on alleviating hunger and homelessness. Open Your Heart helps food and shelter providers of all sizes get the resources they need to serve more people, including mattresses, furnishings and fresh produce. Last year, over $1 million was raised with this grant and it is expected that the amount raised this year will be even larger.

CROSS Food Shelf provides food, clothing, seasonal children’s programs, limited financial assistance and Meals on Wheels to families living in the communities of Maple Grove, Osseo, west Champlin, Rogers, Dayton and Corcoran.

CROSS, located in Rogers, has been in existence for more than thirty years. CROSS is now servicing approximately 600 families monthly. Primarily a volunteer organization, CROSS is supported by community donations from businesses, churches, schools and organizations in the area.
