The Minnesota Recreation Parks Association joins Maple Grove Community Organization to offer pickelball and volleyball tournaments during Maple Grove Days. Both of these events joined the lineup last year and all who participated had a great time. MPRA offers addition volleyball tournament at other community festivals around the metro area, so there’s more opportunity to enjoy the sport even after Maple Grove Days.
What is pickleball? It is a fun game combining ping-pong, tennis and badminton and is played with a smaller racquet/paddle and a whiffle ball. Competition takes place at the Maple Grove Lakeview Knolls and Kerber Parks Thursday, July 11. The doubles teams register from three categories: men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. Don’t delay in signing up this is the newest craze to hit the competitive line up. Participants must be 19 years of age. Registration fee is $15 per team and deadline is Monday, July 8.
MRPA is offering a Four Summer Spiketacular (4’s and 6’s) One Day Sand Volleyball Tournament. People can sign up for all four tournaments or just one. Tournaments take place during Fridley 49’er Days, Maple Grove Days (Sunday, July 14), Shoreview Days or Woodbury Days. There will be 4 or 5 team pools with single-elimination finals. All matches are self-officiated and rally scored. Prizes will be awarded for the top two teams and of course boasting rights of being the Maple Grove Days Sand Volleyball winners.
And continuing with the competitive lineup is the Cornhole… Baggo… Bags…Beanbag Toss Tournament, call it what you will. The fun begins Saturday, July 13. Check out that aim and toss the corn bag into the hole. So take the challenge and toss a way into the winner’s bracket. Sign up a team of two to participate in the annual Cornhole tournament. Each team is guaranteed to compete in a two match tournament. Must be 18 to register and fee is $40 before June 30 or $50 after, so sign up early as space is limited. Not only does the event offer a bit of competition and fun it also has great prizes for the first four places. The winning team will take away the bragging rights as Maple Grove Days Cornhole Champions and $400 prize.
