The Maple Grove girls’ golf team finished an unpredictable 2013 season with a second-place showing in the Section 5 Meet at The Links at Northfork last Friday.
Like in many meets this spring, the golfers were met with another day of strong winds and cloudy skies. The Crimson played well under the circumstances and took home the runner-up trophy in a strong field.
“Throughout the season the team has played with dedication and consistency,” Maple Grove coach Randy Glasmann said. “Our section is comprised of many strong teams, including the Northwest Suburban Conference champion Blaine. When the scores were posted it looked like we could have a high finish. Our lineup came through and we took home the runner up trophy.”
Pacing the Crimson was Jillian Klasen with an 86. Teammates Kristin Stoffels, Sarah Ericson, Jenn Galloway, Kayla Conklin and Kathryn Fox contributed to the second-place finish with a team score of 365. Klasen, a junior, will be representing Maple Grove at the state tournament June 12 to 13 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.
The Crimson say goodbye to seniors Stoffels, Conklin and Sierra Topp.
“They’ve been valuable assets to the team,” Glasmann said. “We’ll have 14 players returning for the 2014 season. Adding a few more players will give us the depth to be competitive in our conference. “
