The return of the Hennepin County Fair, June 13 to 16, marks the official start of the summer fair season in this area. Festivities will take place at Corcoran Lions Park, located at 7205 County Road 101 at the intersection of County Roads 101 and 10 in Corcoran.
When purchased at the fair, tickets will cost $8 for adults, $6 for children ages five through 12 and nothing for children under age 5. Tickets purchased in advance cost a dollar less per ticket. For information, visit the Hennepin County Fair website athennepincountyfair.com.
Operating hours for the fair will be 4 to 11 p.m. on Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Some attractions will be on hand every day at the fair. They will include the Great Family Carnival – Gopher State Expo, farm animal petting zoo, pony rides, creative activities, demonstrations, kids activities, fair food, commercial vendors, 4-H exhibits, Nick’s Kids Show, Hennepin County Master Gardeners and the Northland Oliver tractor display.
Legacy Grant funds will support the Lumberjack Show, Iron Will sled dog demonstrations, story teller, Wild Goose Chase Cloggers, Eelpout Old Time String Band, machine and hand knitting demonstrations and textile center activities.
Crossfire Variety Band will be featured main stage entertainment at 7:30 p.m., Saturday. Crossfire is a versatile variety group that plays a wide variety of music, including 50’s – 80’s, rock, swing, country and blues. The band welcomes song requests and encourages crowd participation. Instrumentation includes keyboard/saxophone, lead guitar, bass guitar and drums. All of the band members sing.
The Demolition Derby will be another marquee event on Saturday, with action beginning at 7:30 p.m. The derby will feature events for stock vehicles (truck and car), modified trucks and a compact class. Fireworks will follow the derby.
The talent contest, starting at 10:30 a.m., will be a major Saturday event. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and winners will be announced on the main stage one half hour after performances end. Talent will compete in divisions for pre-teens (ages 12 years and under), teens (ages 13 to 18) and open (any age). One winner from each division will be selected to represent Hennepin County at the Minnesota State Fair. Entry forms are on line at the Hennepin County Fair website. Registration in advance is recommended. Cost to compete is $5. Performers will have a four-minute time limit.
Throughout the fair, 4-Hers will exhibit their animals and handiwork and display ribbons they have won. Older 4-Hers will compete for chances to represent Hennepin County at the Minnesota State Fair.
