Pretty parkways, beautiful landscaping, and treasured gardens have long been a hallmark of the families and neighborhoods that are sprinkled throughout the city streets and boundaries of Champlin. This year, in conjunction with the Father Hennepin Festival Champlin will host its inaugural garden tour.
“It’s about sharing inspiration and transformation,” said Michelle Chambers, steering committee chair, who has partnered with the Champlin Garden Club to create the tour.
Chambers began this quest last August, researching gardens and contacting local residents in and around the City of Champlin.
“The objective was to gather a broad range of garden styles both public and private that would have mass appeal to several audiences,” said Chambers. “It has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response.”
The homeowners who generously offered to open up their private gardens will showcase a beautiful array of themes for public viewing during the Father Hennepin Festival. Among the sites featured on the tour, guests will be able to experience everything from wonderful waterfalls to charming trains that wind through woods of shade-loving perennials, to a backyard design inspired from a childhood, inclusive of the Boundary Waters and North Woods.
From award winning to awesome, there is something for everyone on this tour.
The tour will open Saturday evening, June 8 with a lit “night-scape” tour beginning at dusk, and will run well past the festival fireworks display. Festival goers will have a chance to experience a new addition to the Father Hennepin line-up, away from the hustle and bustle of the party tents. Strolling through shade gardens, Willows and walkways, this night tour embraces beautifully lit waterfalls, and elegant garden accents along a wetland setting.
Additional gardens will open late morning on Sunday, June 9 and remain open throughout the entire day.
This tour is a self-guided tour. Homeowners will be on-hand to answer gardening questions. Cameras are encouraged.
