Rockford qualified seven boys and five girls to the Section 5A finals conducted Wednesday, May 29 at St. John’s University after this issue went to press.
Jordan O’Reilly won the boys 300-meter hurdles at the sub-section meet last week in Maple Lake. Sasha Galka captured first in the 400. Erik Olson placed third in the pole vault and Nick Klonne was fourth in the 1600. Jordan Weeding led the Rocket girls by winning both the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump. The junior also took second in the 300 hurdles to advance to the finals. Abby Botten placed second in the 1600.
In the relays, the boys 4×100 was first with Zach Guthrie, Kenny Gilb, Thomas Hayden and Galka. The 4×400 also finished first with Guthrie, Hayden, O’Reilly and Galka. Taking second place was the 4×200 relay with Guthrie, Gilb, Hayden and O’Reilly.
The girls captured second in the 4×100 relay with Weeding, Mariah Givens, Logan Henrich and Marie Jakubowski.
As a team, the boys took third and the girls finished fifth at the sub-section meet. “Any of our first place finishers have a good chance of qualifying for state at our section meet,” adds coach Andy Kahler.
