Maple Grove lacrosse girls earn second seed in sections

by Bob San

The Maple Grove girls’ lacrosse team is the second seed in this week’s Section 8 tournament.

The Crimson opened section play against St. Cloud Tech May 29. The winner advances to the semifinal May 31. The section championship game is June 5 at Osseo.

Elk River is the No. 1 seed. Maple Grove lost to the Elks 12-11 during the regular season.

The Crimson ended the regular season with a 7-2 conference record and are 9-4 overall. Michelle Lynch (22 goals and nine assists) and Brittany Throndson (22 goals and four assists) lead the team in scoring but the Crimson are a well-balanced team with good defense and midfield play.

Coach Morgan Kingstedt feels her team has a legitimate chance of winning section and going to state.

“I’m very optimistic and believe that anything can happen,” she said. “With the new sections and alignments I feel that State is a realistic goal.”
