Rockets win Milaca invite

Ty Griffin scored his first Eagle ever on the final hole of the Milaca Invitational Monday as Rockford won the boys team title.

Brody Harstad placed first at 79 with Griffin close behind in second at 80. Rounding out the scoring was Alex Shaikoski at 86 and Keith Propson at 88.

Griffin’s second shot on the par five 18th hole stopped three feet from the hole. The junior sank the third shot for the Eagle.

It was close, but Rockford kept the streak of winning every Central Minnesota Conference boys golf meet going. Rockford trailed Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa by one stroke with one golf left to report at Howard Lake last Thursday.

Ben skinner came in with a 41 and Rockford won by three strokes. Harstad was the medalist at 38, followed by Griffin at 42 and Propson, Shaikoski and Colton Strecker all shot 45.

Rockford also placed first at BBE last week. Leaders were Griffin at 40, Harstad and Shaikoski shot 43 and Propson had 44.

Harstad shot 79 and Griffin 82 at the 17-team St. Cloud Apollo Invitational. Going against top Class AA schools like Edina, Rockford placed 13th.

After six league events Rockford leads by 80 strokes with one to go, a home meet at Shamrock Thursday, May 23. The Rockets have five golfers in the top 10.

Tigers set boys golf record

Not only was Delano senior Jordan Peters on top of his golf game in winning all three events entered last week, the Tiger as a team had never been better.

Playing at Litchfield last Thursday in a Wright County Conference event, Delano had its best day ever, shooting a school record 296. The effort was only good enough for second as host Litchfield shot a blistering 290.

Peters won the meet with 68 for the 18 holes. Ben Nesenson placed eighth at 73, followed by Seth MacLeod 76, Austin vanSytzama 79, Matt Peterson 81 and Michael Bartos 81.

Delano played another league event at Hutchinson, placing fourth. Peters shot 71 to be the medalist, followed by vanSytzama 80, Nesenson 81 and MacLeod 83.

The week started with Delano placing second at the nine-team Annandale Invitational. Peters topped the field once again with a 69. Bartos shot 80 to be sixth. Both Zach Carson and Trey Soukup shot 85.

Summer gym classes

North Shore Gymnastics Association is taking registration for the summer session. The 12-week flex-schedule runs June 10-Aug. 30.

The session allows families the opportunity to register only for the weeks they are able to attend.
