DPIE to raise funds for renovating DMS auditorium

by Matt Schoen

Superintendent, Delano Public Schools

Delano Public Schools is engaged in a Strategic Planning Process that will provide us with a strategic direction for the next five to 10 years.

We have surveyed district employees, parents, and community members. We also have completed a feedback process that helps us narrow down the priorities and initiatives that we will be working on in the very near future. These feedback sessions gave everyone the opportunity to provide personal input and give direction with regards to our strategic plan.

The next step in the process will be a special school board meeting that will include all board members and administration to review data from these sessions and map out a strategic plan commencing in the 2013-14 school year. After this special meeting there will be board action, either in June or July, in time for the administration to present our new strategic plan in August when all employees return. I look forward to the culmination of this process that will give us good direction in providing a world class education for our students.

I am excited to announce that there has been a group of community members, alumni, parents, and district staff that have been working on renovating the auditorium located in Delano Middle School. For a very long time the auditorium has needed upgrades to meet needs of students, staff, parents and community members who use this public facility. The best part of this renovation project is that a talented group of individuals will be raising funds to replace the sound and lighting system, along with seats in the auditorium. All funds will be facilitated through Delano Partners in Education (DPIE), which is a separate non-profit foundation that works in partnership with our schools. The projected completion date for this all-important renovation project is April 1, 2014.

Our next organizational meeting will be Monday, June 10, at 6:45 p.m. in the middle school auditorium. I encourage all interested community members to attend this meeting as they begin to organize to prepare for this renovation project.

This is a very exciting time as our school district continues to seek out creative ways to finance these much needed projects without an additional tax burden on our property owners. DPIE came into existence for this very purpose, to support important educational projects such as the auditorium renovation, and building an endowment fund to support 21st century technologies in our school district.
