The Rogers golfers, playing their eight tournament in seven days, remained unbeaten in Mississippi 8 play with a victory Thursday at Purple Hawk in Cambridge.
The Royals shot 304, with Buffalo at 316 and Cambridge-Isanti at 322 finishing 2-3 in the six-team field. Rogers has four M-8 wins this year and 35 straight over six years.
Matt Swanson of the host team was medalist with 68, followed by Rogers’ Morgan Rask with 73 and Buffalo’s Gunnar Goodmanson with 74.
Rogers also had Kyle Korva and Rocky Nelson with 76′s, and Dylan Kline and Luke Bunkers 79′s.
Rogers played tournaments Thursday, Friday and Saturday, two on Monday (sending the JV to one of them) and two on Tuesday, then Wednesday.
“We are finally caught up now,” said coach Dan Bursheim, referring to the backlog of tournaments due to the many rain- and snow-outs in April. “We don’t play again until Monday and we actually have two straight days to practice … We’ve only had one and a half days of (outdoor) practice all year, so that will be great.”
Bursheim said he anticipated a strong challenge from Buffalo this year but the Bison were hurt by losing the best player, Hunter Bruhn, due to a hockey injury. Bursheim said he’s hearing Bruhn may be back for sectionals.
Rogers will return to Purple Hawk on Monday for a small invitational.
