Winners to be crowned at Delano 4th of July
The Delano Royalty Organization has named 10 young women as candidates for three positions as Delano Senior Ambassadors. The three winners will begin their yearlong reign following coronation at this year’s Delano 4th of July celebration.
The 10 candidates are Alexa Asbury, Hannah Chapman, Gabrielle Cordes, Rachel Dalbec, Anna Elsen, Victoria Hagen, Sarah Russek, Amelia Sutherland, Samantha Whitcomb and Bailey Windsperger.
Royalty candidates must live in the Delano School District and be juniors or seniors in high school. They must be at least 17 years of age but no older than 22 years of age by July 1 of the festival year in which they compete. Candidates must be single women and agree that they have not been, are not now, and will not become pregnant or married during the year of reign if selected to represent Delano.
Here are biographies for all 10 candidates.
Activities/academics: Has been a part of high school and club swim teams, youth group, the volunteer group Hope I Have, and club rugby team.
Goals: Attending four-year college to work towards psychology degree. Swim for college team and swim to stay in shape. After graduating with degree, attend a Bible college where she can join a youth group to be a counselor and mentor to teens. During this time, earn master’s degree in psychology, get married, start a family, and enjoy her time in the church.
Activities/academics: Participated in softball, Math Team, National Honor Society and Concert Choir. She is a summer T-ball coach and has volunteered with Golden Living Center for two years. Has been on A honor role, was a student of the month in English, and student of the year in Tae-Kwon-Do.
Goals: Graduate from Delano High School at top of her class. Attend a highly accredited university where she can achieve new goals while continuing to be active in the community. Get a secondary degree in pediatric health field. After watching what her little sister went through with her cancer treatments, she felt some things could have been done better, and she intends to make that happen. Receiving this degree will lead her to accomplishing her goal of having her dream job working with children and helping others.
Activities/academics: Participates in Youth as Resources, LINK, student council, and journalism and is secretary of worship/music committee at her church. Has been on A honor roll and was most valuable offensive player for varsity soccer past two years.
Goals: Graduating from a four-year college and possibly getting master’s degree. She would like to be a Spanish teacher so traveling abroad during school would be ideal. Would love to visit Greece, Italy, and possibly India because she loves learning about new cultures. After traveling wants to settle down and begin a family near her brother and sister.
Activities/academics: Has been part of soccer, golf, basketball, cheerleading teams. Volunteered at Animal Humane Society. Went on mission trip to Maine. Named to B honor roll.
Goals: This summer continue volunteering with Animal Humane Society and go on mission trip in Wyoming. Major in biology at University of Minnesota, Duluth. Obtain master’s degree in veterinary science. Find job working as veterinarian.
Activities/academics: Has been part of Destination Imagination (DI), Youth as Resources, SHARP, National Honor Society, student council, concert choir, and Sound Revolution. Was second grade Sunday school teacher and attended mission trip Mission of Joy. Is on DI Minnesota board of directors. Won first place at DI Global Finals and the Team Spirit, da Vinci, and Renaissance awards in DI. Lettered in DI and solo/ensemble choir contest. Is A honor roll student.
Goals: Study elementary education at North Dakota State University. While in college stay involved throughout the Delano community while balancing work, school, relationships, and new endeavors in North Dakota. After graduation stay in surrounding states and teach on Indian reservations and pursue mission work. During that time get married and start a family but is open to whatever God has planned and might call her to do.
Activities/academics: Participated in Math Team, Science Olympiad. Has been Delano Gymnastics manager. Plays piano. Is a dog watcher and babysitter. Volunteers for Bingo night at senior citizen home. Has been on A honor roll, Hall of Fame and citizen of the month.
Goals: Graduate from Delano High School with high honors. Study at four-year private college, possibly Bethel University. Considering a major in forensic science while being involved in show choir and multiple volunteer opportunities. Get a job that relates to her major and hopefully end up at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Have a family and live in Minnesota. Be part of missionary and outreach programs around the world. It is important to her to give back, to touch and change lives of as many people as she can.
Activities/academics: Has been member of Youth as Resources, 4-H, and Delano Drama.
Goals: Be accepted and successful at a university. Get an education enabling her to pursue a career she enjoys. This would be somewhere she could use her creativity for the benefit of others while enlisting the help of others.
Activities/academics: Participated in gymnastics, Youth as Resources, track, dance, religious education, Destination Imagination, and LINK. Was All State honorable mention in gymnastics. Was manager for boys varsity soccer and the Delano soccer club. Led youth group and volunteered. Has been on B honor roll.
Goals: Going to state again for gymnastics and getting good grades to prepare her for college. Attending college. Figuring out what job she wants to do in the future. Travelling around the world, specifically to Australia and London. Earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree, getting a job, and seeing where it takes her.
Activities/academics: Was Vice President of student council and participated in Math Team, Gymnastics, junior varsity and club soccer, SHARP, Destination Imagination and National Honor Society. Her DI team won first place at state and seventh place at Nationals/Globals. Has been a head of youth committee of “The Best of 12.” Has been on A honor roll for the past three years.
Goals: Earn honors diploma from high school. Earn four-year college degree. Continue education to become a veterinarian or doctor. Spend a year in Africa or somewhere overseas with Peace Corps. Travel the world volunteering and experiencing different cultures. Have a family and reside in the country.
Activities/academics: Participated in National Honor Society, LINK, and the Delano Tiger Dance Team. Has been on the scholars honor roll and the A honor roll.
Goals: Study physical therapy in college. Earn a doctorate in physical therapy and get a job in a rehabilitation clinic.
