Hamel Lions Flea Market

SUNDAYS THROUGH OCT. 27 — The Hamel Lions Flea Market will be open on Sundays through Oct. 27 in the parking lot of the Medina Entertainment Center, 500 Hwy. 55, Medina. Bargain hunters can visit the market from 6 a.m. to noon. The Flea Market will be closed on May 12 and 19 and Aug. 11. Vendors will offer antiques, collectables, bargains, crafts, produce, plants, fall farmers market, and one of a kinds. Admission and parking are free. Vendor space costs $20 per spot. Delano Farmers Market

WEDNESDAYS THROUGH OCT. — The Delano Farmers Market is open Wednesdays through October from 2 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Flippin’ Bills’, located on the corner of Highway 12 and County Line Road in Delano. Shoppers will find freshly baked bread, local honey, maple syrup, pickles, farm fresh eggs, seasonal fruits and more when in season. A non-profit booth is available. Spring Flower Fest

MAY 11 — The Delano Public Library invites children ages 10 or older to a Spring Flower Fest, from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, at the library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Village Church ground breaking

MAY 12 — Village Evangelical Free Church, 5725 County Road 11 in Independence, will celebrate the ground breaking of its new sanctuary at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, May 12, right after the church service. The ceremony will only last 15 to 20 minutes, a short time compared with the more than 15 years that the congregation has saved money for the project. Currently, the congregation worships in the church’s multi-purpose room.

Blood drive

MAY 13 — There will be an American Red Cross Delano Community Blood Drive Monday, May 13, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Delano American Legion. Spring is a time for the Red Cross to rebuild the blood supply after severe weather has cancelled more than 425 blood drives and caused a shortfall of more than 16,000 blood and platelet donations since the beginning of February. General Federated Women’s Club

MAY 13 — The General Federated Women’s Club of Delano (GFWC) will meet at 6:45 p.m. Monday, May 13 at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. GFWC meets on the second Monday of each month from September through May. Most meetings have presentations on informational topics. The purpose of the Club is to provide opportunities for club members to make contributions to their community.

MAY 14 — The Wright County Wellness on Wheels (WOW) van will stop at Coborn’s supermarket on Highway 12 in Delano from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 14. WOW services include adult and child immunizations; health screening; blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol checks by appointment; pregnancy, health and wellness checks and child car seat checks by appointment. MAY 14 — Loretto residents can leave their unwanted items at the curb during city clean up day, Tuesday, May 14. Have items at the curb by 6 a.m. Items that will not be accepted are paints, hazardous waste, asbestos, propane tanks and flourescent bulbs. For bulk items such as couches, mattresses and construction debris, call Randy’s Environmental Services to arrange for pickup. A fee for pickup of bulk items will be charged, so have a credit card handy.

Maple Plain Library Book Sale

MAY 15, 16 & 18 — The Friends of the Maple Plain Library will hold a sale of hundreds of adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback at the library, 5184 Main St. E. Dates and times are Wednesday, May 15, from noon to 5 p.m.; Thursday, May 16, from 1 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Most books which have been withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public are priced at $1 or less. Library’s Dog Day Afternoons

MAY 16 — Cuddle up and read with Annie, the golden retriever, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Delano Public Library, 160 Railroad Ave. E. Annie is a certified Reading Education Assistance Dog. Sign ups are on the same day for 15 minutes of one on one reading time. The library will provide books of all reading levels. WestPointe Spring Brunch

MAY 18 — “How to really trust God in all things” is the theme of the spring brunch, set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at WestPointe Church, 9090 Hwy. 12 in Independence. The church invites teenage and adult women of all faiths to hear Linda Reinert talk about how she faced challenges of a son with a potentially fatal diseases and a daughter dealing with major depression. Reinert is a speech and language pathologist in the Delano, Rockford, and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted school districts. Tickets costing $10 each are available in advance at the church. Some of the proceeds will help pay for the youth group’s summer mission trip to Panama.

MAY 18 TO SEPT. 21 — The Delano Community Market is open 9 a.m. to noon, every Saturday from May 18 to Sept. 21 along River Street in downtown Delano. Visitors will find local food, artists, crafts, children’s activities, music and more. MAY 21 — Loretto is offering residents a curb side leaf and grass collection Tuesday, May 21. All yard waste must be in compostable bags, which are available at Loretto City Hall while supplies last. Brush must be tied in three-foot by three-foot bundles.
