Science of Music

MAY 11 -— The St. Michael Public Library is offering a musical program called The Science of Music, presented by Pages of Music, Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for children in grades 4 through 6. Pages of Music are Carrie Vecchione, oboe/English horn, and Rolf Erdahl, double bass. They both perform with orchestras and are professional music educators. Their Science of Music program teaches children about sound waves and vibrations, strings and reeds, rubber bands and straws, and how music works. The attendance limit is 50 and preregistration is required. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage fund. Civil War presentation

MAY 15 — The St. Michael library invites adults, teens and school age children are invited to a presentation titled “Dr. Hand and the Civil War” at the St. Michael Public Library Wednesday, May 15, 6 to 7 p.m. Dr. Hand is a member of the Fort Snelling History Players. He will appear in character and in costume as a doctor and Civil War veteran. He will describe his experiences caring for sick and wounded soldiers throughout the war and surviving a Confederate prison camp. He’ll also describe how Civil War experience changed the way medicine was practiced. This program is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Spring flowers

MAY 16 — Children ages 4 and up are invited to an event called Third Thursday April Showers Bring May Flowers at the St. Michael Public Library Thursday, May 16, 6 to 7 p.m. Visit the library on the third Thursday in May to plant spring flowers. Fancy girls ages 5 to 10, together with their mom, grandma, or other special lady in their life, are invited to a Fancy Nancy Tea Party at the St. Michael Public Library Saturday, May 18, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Nancy is a character in a popular book series by Jane O’Connor. She dresses in fancy clothing and uses fancy words. This event is in honor of Mother’s Day, and will include a special craft, tea, and storytime. The attendance limit is 10 and preregistration is required. Josiah’s Hope benefit sale

MAY 15 THROUGH 18 — The Highlands of St. Michaels Annual Neighborhood Sale, benefiting Josiah’s Hope Orphan Care Ministries, is Wednesday through Saturday, May 15 through 18, at 4619 Lasalle Court NE, St. Michael. Donate gently used items to help vulnerable children in need. Call Kimberly at 612-670-4878 to arrange pick-up or drop off at your convenience. Join for refreshments and information about this year’s recipients. As always, children are welcome and there will be activity stations for them to be involved.

Josiah’s Hope Orphan Care Ministry was founded by Tony and Kimberly Del Percio following the death of their adopted son, Josiah, from a complication following his fourth open-heart surgery. The ministry’s mission is to raise awareness and funds for orphans and special needs children worldwide.
