The new Rogers boys lacrosse program picked up its first-ever victory Friday, 12-9 over Irondale, and almost added another Monday but fell to St. Cloud Tech 11-10 on a goal in the final seconds.
Jason Roberge notched four goals and Tristan Witthuhn added three as the Royals (1-3) beat Irondale at home.
“Our first win ever!” said coach Luke Bame. “That felt pretty good.”
At St. Cloud Tech, goalkeeper Cody Belden was credited by Bame with keeping the Royals in the game. The 6-foot-4 sophomore was making his varsity debut.
“I called him up from JV for this game and he made 20-some saves,” said Bame. “Thats an awful lot of saves in lacrosse.”
Nick Fossum and Cameron Bursch scored three goals each as the Royals passed the ball well and spread out their offense.
Rogers will host Holy Family Catholic on Thursday.
