Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” will play Rockford High School auditorium on the evenings of Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3. The musical is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The cast and crew — sixth, seventh and eighth grade students of Rockford Middle School-Center for Environmental Studies (RMS-CES) – numbers 70.
This classic Disney title contains all of the songs from the Academy Award winning animated feature film, as well as three new songs from the Broadway show. The setting is a magical kingdom beneath the sea where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice. RMS-CES students are extremely excited to share this wonderful production with everyone. They have been practicing for nearly 9 weeks and, along with a little grown up help, have some wonderful costumes to showcase their acting and singing abilities. The music is catchy, the colors bright and eye popping, and the sets creative. This is an affordable, family fun theater adventure that will transport attendees to the high seas (where it has to be warmer) for a brief and delightful getaway. The production is directed by Darren Eliason, Music Dpecialist and Choir Director.
