North Shore gymnasts advance to nationals

The North Shore Gymnastics Association (NSGA) had eight members competing in the seven-state USGA Region 4 meet at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri in April.

Three gymnasts qualified to move on to national championship competitions.

For the Level 8 gymnasts, the region meet is the final event for the season. Teagan Schmidt (12) competed in the Junior B Division, placing third on the vault and 14th overall in the field of 42.

Amanda Montplaisir (12) competed as a member of the Super 8 Team, which consists of the top nine Level 8 gymnasts from each state, regardless of age. Montplaisir’s all-around score of 36.975 helped launch the team to a second place finish.

North Shore’s Level 9 team included Breghan Kiloran (14), Natalie Brasket (14), Sarah Ellingboe (13) and Lauren Biorn (16). Brasket placed 18th and Biorn 20th in their age groups.

Ellingboe earned fifth place on both uneven bars and balance beam and was ninth in the all-around, qualifying her to move on to the Western National Championships in Roseville, California May 4-5.

In the Junior D Division, Kiloran placed fourth on bars, fifth on floor exercise and was fifth all-around, also qualifying her to the national meet.

In the Level 10 Junior C Division, Amanda Bartemio (15) placed fifth on floor and was 12th in the all-around. Alex Kopp (17) competed in the Senior C Division and placed sixth on vault, seventh on floor and was eighth in the all-around.

Kopp earned the alternate spot on the national team.  Plus, she will compete at the 2013 Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament at the Minneapolis Convention Center May 12.
