Crimson softball team off to good start

Maple Grove opened the 2013 softball season with wins over Park Center and Blaine last week.

Against Park Center, Abby Bunnell ignited the Crimson by going 3 for 4, stole three bases and scored three times. Sammi Sadler stroke two doubles and had two steals and two runs. New starting pitcher Sydney Smith picked up her first varsity win. She pitched seven inning, allowed no earned runs and struck out 10.

Smith fanned 13 and earned her first varsity shutout as Maple Grove blanked Blaine 6-0. Sadler continued to be hot going 3-4 with another double and two runs. Taylor Bratten turned in a solid game at second base with three solid fielding plays and going 2-3 at the plate.

The season kicks in to high gear for Maple Grove this week with four games scheduled and a tournament at Eastview against some of the best in the state
