A familiar face will lead the Osseo High School girls’ golf team this spring. Bill Quan, the longtime Osseo volleyball head coach, takes over the golf team when former coach LeAnn Helgeson decided to retire.
Quan, who plays at the Men’s club at Sundance and has a 10-12 handicap, inherits a team that returns four starters in Emily Petterson, Katy Woelfel, Lindsey Borgeson and Anna Reget. Petterson qualified for the state meet last year. Also, the program attracted a large turnout of 20 girls this spring.
“We have increased our roster size,” Quan said. “Having 20 girls out is an improvement for building our team for the future.”
The immediate problem for Quan (and all spring sports teams) is the cold and snowy weather that has hampered practices.
“We fundraised a little bit so we could afford a few days in the BP Golf Dome,” Quan said. “Also, we have been on the range for one day up at Sundance. The biggest thing is that we have not been able to get any holes in so we have not been able to have official tryouts. We have had one match rescheduled already and the one this week is in jeopardy now.”
