Senior Jordan Peters hopes to make more headlines for the Delano boys golf team this season after placing fourth at the state tournament last year.

Peters is one of five Tiger golfers in school history to compete at state. Peters made it to state as a sophomore and junior and will shoot for a third trip. He also won the Wright County Conference title by seven strokes. The top four finishers return.

Both the Delano boys and girls teams return a bulk of the varsity players from last year. For the boys, sophomore Ben Nesenson advanced to the second day of the section tournament. The other varsity players back are senior Matt Peterson and ninth-grader Austin VanSytzama. Varsity newcomers are juniors Michael Bartos and Seth MacLeod.

“We return four golfers with a lot of varsity experience and are looking for some of the others to pick up their game and help us out this season,” said coach Jon Moen. “We play in a very competitive conference, so we will take that on as a challenge to make us better.”

Delano senior Jordan Peters finished fourth at the State Class A golf tournament last season. He returns to lead the Tigers.

The other question is when the season will start. Early season events have been postponed with the cold, wet weather. The next scheduled event is at home at Pioneer Creek for a 4:30 p.m. conference meet. Other meets are set at Glencoe-Silver Lake Thursday, April 25.

Jake Dorsey is the new varsity girls coach with Lona DeSutter as the assistant coach. The team had no seniors last year, returning several who will battle for varsity spots.

Dorsey served as the assistant golf professional at Minnesota Valley, Minikahda, and Braemar golf courses. He has a degree in golf complex management. As a player, Dorsey served as captain for his Apple Valley High School team and Augsburg College teams. Plus, he played in the Minnesota State Open.

Serving as team captains are senior Kelsie Nelson and junior Jesse Gallagher. Other top returning golfers are seniors Megan Etzel and Kourtney Ryan, juniors Kyersten Moen, Amy Max and Hannah Bigot, plus sophomores Jena Vanderbroek and Abbey Hutchins.

Promising newcomers are Brittany Karjer and Kailyn Warne. Nelson advanced to the section finals last year.

The next scheduled match is at the Monticello Invitational, 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24. The next league events are Thursday, April 25 at Burl Oaks in Mound and Friday, April 26 at Hutchinson.

Check the school website for re-scheduled events.
