The Rogers Royals opened their tennis season with a 4-3 victory over Park Center on Thursday on the Pirates courts.

C.J. Rich rallied to earn the decisive point after trailing 5-2 in the third set. He won 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

“This was his first varsity match and it was a big win for us because Park Center is a section team,” said coach Nick Scheevel.

Derek Smith opened the season at No. 1 singles and won.

The Royals will play at Anoka on Monday.
