Alum takes over as Maple Grove hockey coach

Tom Starkey, a Maple Grove Senior High alumnus and experienced hockey coach, has been named the new head hockey coach for the Crimson.

As a Maple Grove High student, Starkey played hockey the first year the school opened under coach Gary Stefano. He continued his hockey career with the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Division 1 school. He graduated from the academy with a degree in business management and became a 2nd Lieutenant, US Air Force Officer.

More recently, Starkey served as junior varsity and varsity assistant coach for Wayzata Public Schools. He will start his new position this summer.

Starkey replaces Stefano, who served as the Crimson coach for 16 years before being let go after this past season.
